What is LOIS?

LOIS is a one-year training program with lab character for scientists:

  • In different education and training modules, scientists learn and train the application of open innovation principles and methods in generating and disseminating new research findings.
  • Lecturers, trainers and coaches are leading international open innovation experts.
  • Practical application is a significant component of LOIS. Starting points are provided by participants, project partners, respectively CRIS.
  • Handling real world cases, interactivity, small groups and exchanging experiences in lab meetings enable a high level of learning exchange and makes theoretical input tangible straight away.
  • Access to international good practices in the field of open innovation, as well as open innovation networks, will be available to the participating scientists.

What is the goal of LOIS?

Scientists learn and train the usage of open innovation problem-solving methods and strategies to increase output and the relevance of their own scientific work. In the long term, LOIS should contribute to making open innovation principles an essential component in scientific processes, to bring science and society closer to one another, thereby increasing the positive effect of science on society.

The initial implementation of LOIS is a pilot project with an experimental character. Its results will help to conceptualise a similar long-term, sustainable programme for science.

What specific content can be acquired by participating in LOIS?

Generally, participating scientists learn how they can enhance their problem-solving competences by using open innovation methods and principles in fields such as data analysis, establishing new / unusual partnerships, disseminating research results, etc.  The following themes will be addressed in the education and training modules:

  • Where can one find relevant knowledge that may contribute to the development of new and more relevant research questions, hypotheses and to generating new research results?
  • How can one identify these, perhaps even currently unknown, sources of knowledge and integrate them into the inherent research process?
  • How can findings of the own research institution / group be made available for others in a win-win situation – for society, for institutions or businesses?
  • Which factors influence a successful application of open innovation methods and principles in the process of developing and disseminating new research projects?
